I have chosen to do my project on the 1st Cavalry Division, a U.S. Army branch, because my grandfather was on the 61st Field Artillery Battalion, he fought in the Korean War and is now 77 years old. He had told me stories of the war and they were interesting, and I wanted to learn more about it.
My investigative question was: “What is the history and use of the 1st Cavalry Division?” and I have learned that the division has been in many famous wars and has many smaller divisions in itself.
My first piece is my timeline and it has a few famous dates, such as being dismounted. The 1st Cavalry Division was horse mount cavalry in the ‘wild west.’
My second piece is my bar graph of the casualties compared in the Korean War, World War II, and Vietnam. It also has the dates for the beginning and ends of the wars.
My third piece is my collage of pictures of my grandfather. He served for 4 years and he and my grandmother host a reunion every year at their house for the 1st Cavalry Division’s 61st Field Artillery Battalion.
My fourth piece is my letter from a soldier to his family at home, he is writing to say he’s being shipped to Iraq .
My fifth piece is my orders from a Commanding Officer (C.O.) to his platoon.
